About Me

My name is Nicole Indelicato and I am a recent graduate of Stony Brook University’s School of Journalism, with a concentration in online and multimedia journalism. I currently freelance for News 12 Long Island and the Village Times Herald. I also manage social media for two private doctors.

This website is part of a semester-long senior project for an upper-division journalism class. My story is on the struggles people with disabilities face in finding physical fitness opportunities and the national and state-wide efforts that have been made to bring exercise to this population since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities act in 1990. I also explore what some of the well-known commercial gyms are doing to make their facilities more accessible. My video piece focuses on HOPEFitness, one gym on Long Island, N.Y. that is geared toward people with mental and physical disabilities and also open to the public.

I have held internships at MTV Press, CBS Sunday Morning and Newsday. In May 2011, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA and I was also chosen as the hooding representative for the School of Journalism. I was also one of four recipients of the H. Lee Dennison Valedictorian Award, an honor given to those who maintain a perfect GPA during their years at Stony Brook University.

I’m an avid runner and follow a strict vegetarian diet. I live on Long Island with my family and three cats, Vincenzo, Giacomo and Amelia.
